What started as a neighborhood feud has accidentally become a tourist attraction.

In 2021, a bitter boundary dispute between neighbors in Sheffield led to one of the most petty acts of revenge imaginable. Retired couple Irene and Graham Lee, both in their 70s, hired tree surgeons to chop exactly half the branches off their neighbor’s 16-foot fir tree.

The tree had stood peacefully for 25 years until birds started nesting in it, leaving droppings on the Lees’ pristine driveway. When neighbor Bharat Mistry offered compromises like trimming and bird netting, there was no negotiating. The Lees wanted those branches gone.

Mistry and his family watched in horror as the tree surgeons hacked away at their beloved tree, creating the most perfectly petty piece of passive aggression you’ve ever seen.

Three years later, the half-tree has become an unlikely celebrity. It’s been tagged as a tourist attraction on Google Maps, complete with reviews. One visitor gave it three stars, noting it’s “worth paying a visit” if you’re in the area.

Neighbors say people still make special trips to the quiet cul-de-sac just to see the tree and take photos. Real estate agents even use it as a landmark, telling buyers houses are “near that half tree.”

The former friends still wave to other neighbors but apparently haven’t spoken to each other since. The tree remains perfectly divided, a living monument to how neighborly disputes can spiral completely out of control.
